It's an interesting question when you really think about it.

Most people answer pretty quickly. Better skin. Anti-aging. Acne. Relaxation. Self-care. The usual suspects. And yes, those things matter. I have dedicated fifteen years of my life to helping people achieve healthier skin. I love a good before-and-after. I love watching someone stop hiding behind foundation because they finally feel comfortable in their own skin. But after all these years, I've become convinced that people aren't really coming for exfoliation alone.

Some people are looking for certainty. They've spent three hours (okay, more like twelve) on TikTok and are now convinced they need beef tallow, castor oil, seventeen serums, a red light mask, and perhaps a ceremonial sacrifice under the full moon to fix a dry patch. Their bathroom counter looks like a science experiment and somehow their skin is more confused than when they started. What they actually need is someone they trust to tell them what makes sense for their skin and what can stay in the shopping cart.

Some people are looking for rest. Actual rest. An hour where nobody needs anything from them and they are free from being responsible for literally anything.

And some people are looking for connection. Over time I've realized how few places exist where adults can gather, talk honestly, laugh, process life, and be cared for at the same time. Somewhere between the cleanse and the mask, estheticians become trusted witnesses to people's lives. We've heard about first dates, final divorces, career pivots, your bitchy mom, pregnancies and infertility, grief, reinventions, and dreams that haven't quite found the courage to leave your lips. We've also heard detailed recaps of text message exchanges that should probably qualify as forensic evidence.

There is something strangely healing about discussing your situationship, your childhood wounds, your hormonal acne, and that deep line between your eyebrows, while someone massages your shoulders. Life feels more manageable after that. Don't ask me why. It just does. And yes, sometimes what you need is an hour of girl time. A little laughter, a little gossip, a little "wait... she did WHAT?" That counts as nervous system regulation too. I don't make the rules.

TBH, nobody has ever walked out of my treatment room saying, "Wow, those were phenomenal extractions."

People remember how they felt. They remember finally getting answers. They remember laughing until they cried. They remember leaving feeling lighter than when they arrived.

And sometimes it looks like all of those things at once.

The older we get, the harder it can become to find places where connection happens naturally. Sometimes the facial is the reason you booked. Sometimes the conversation is the thing you needed most. The beauty of this work is that there is room for all of it.
